The Daytime Disappearing Act Of The Glass Frog
A glass frog resting on a leaf can appear almost like a faint green shadow. Its muscles and belly are naturally translucent, but that alone cannot explain how it becomes so difficult to see. The northern glass frog uses an unusual second strategy. While resting, it removes most of its red blood cells from circulation and stores them inside its liver, making the rest of its body more transparent.
