The Cost Of Unequal Access: Big finance does not bankrupt every Black American, and financial hardship cannot be blamed on one industry alone. Still, evidence shows that parts of the financial system have repeatedly made borrowing more expensive and building wealth more difficult for Black families. These pressures include discriminatory lending, limited access to affordable banking, high-cost financial products, and unequal opportunities to own appreciating assets. Together, they can drain money from communities that already have less inherited wealth.
