A Love Story Written In Marble: The Taj Mahal stands along the Yamuna River in Agra, India, as one of the world's most recognized buildings. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned this massive structure in 1632 after his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during childbirth.  She was his third wife but held a special place in his heart throughout their 19 years of marriage. The emperor wanted to create something that would honor her memory for centuries to come, and he succeeded beyond imagination.
