The Accident That Changed Everything: Lewis Roberts was just 18 years old when his life took a dramatic turn on March 13, 2021. Walking through Leek, England, the teenager was struck by a van near the busy intersection of Broad Street and Hartington Street.  The impact caused severe head injuries that would challenge everything doctors thought they knew about brain death. Background: The Manhattan Project And Human Testing   Between 1945 and 1947, as part of the Manhattan Project, scientists conducted secret experiments involving the injection of plutonium into 18 human subjects.  These experiments were designed to understand how plutonium behaved in the human body and how it could affect health.  The research was motivated by the urgent need to protect workers handling radioactive materials during the development of nuclear weapons.
