However, remaining ignorant, or choosing to be "stupid," requires effort because we have the ability and opportunities to learn, grow, and acquire knowledge throughout our lives. 

In other words, staying ignorant in a world full of information and learning opportunities takes conscious effort, as it involves ignoring or rejecting the chance to educate oneself.

The quote suggests that it's almost intentional to remain "stupid" when we have the means to overcome our initial ignorance.
