Mayor Eric Adams to Meet Former Border Czar Over NYC Migrant Crisis

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to meet with Tom Homan, who served as the "Border Czar" under former President Donald Trump, on December 12 to discuss the city’s ongoing migrant crisis.

The meeting is expected to focus on how to address the challenges the city faces with the large number of migrants arriving from the southern border.

Mayor Adams said he is open to hearing Homan’s ideas, particularly on deporting migrants who have committed crimes.

He emphasized that New York City should continue to support law-abiding migrants and those seeking asylum, but he has criticized the city’s current sanctuary laws. These laws, Adams argued, might make it harder to work with federal immigration officials to address violent offenders.

Adams has repeatedly spoken about the financial toll of the crisis on the city. He stated that the $6.4 billion New York City has spent on managing the influx of migrants could have gone toward other important services like housing, schools, or public safety.

The mayor hopes the meeting with Homan will be cooperative, focusing on securing the U.S. border and reducing the pressures caused by migrants in New York City.

Adams stressed that while violent criminals must be dealt with firmly, the city must treat non-criminal migrants and asylum seekers with fairness and compassion.

This meeting comes as the city continues to search for long-term solutions to manage the growing migrant population while balancing the needs of its residents.
