Crowds Gather in the Cold for Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting with Enhanced Security

Thousands of people braved the chilly weather on Wednesday evening to witness the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting in New York City.

This iconic event, marking the start of the holiday season, drew large crowds despite the cold.

People bundled up in warm coats, scarves, and gloves, eager to see the 90-foot Norway spruce sparkle with thousands of lights.

A Magical Tradition

The Rockefeller Center tree lighting has been a beloved holiday tradition since 1933.

Families, tourists, and locals gathered to watch the massive tree, decorated with more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights and topped with a dazzling Swarovski crystal star, come to life.

"It’s cold, but it’s worth it," said one attendee, holding a cup of hot chocolate. "This really gets you in the holiday spirit."

Tightened Security Measures

This year, security was a top priority. With such a large crowd, New York City officials increased police presence and set up additional security checkpoints.

Bags were searched, and streets around Rockefeller Center were blocked off to ensure safety. "We want everyone to enjoy the night without worry," said a police spokesperson.

Musical Performances and Festive Cheer

The event featured live performances from popular artists, adding to the excitement.

Singers and musicians entertained the crowd with holiday classics, creating a festive atmosphere. People cheered as the tree finally lit up, casting a warm glow over the crowd.

As the tree lighting ceremony ended, many stayed to take photos and admire the decorations.

Despite the cold, the spirit of the season warmed everyone’s hearts, reminding all that the holidays are about joy, togetherness, and celebration.
